HiEd,
In my other post I listed the following information:
The following information is from Geneaological Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pension Files Vol.III NZ abstrated by Virgil White and published in 1990 by the National Historical Pulishing Company.
Shope
"Nicholas, PA Line, R9531, he applied 13 August 1839 Cumberland Co PA aged 79 sol was b in Berks Co Pa, Sol enl in Lancaster Co. Pa."
According to this information it was Nicholas himself who applied for the pension. The age and birth county are correct for this to be Nicolaus Schopp born 1759 to Johannes Schop(p) and Barbara Hubler/Hubeler.I would not get too hung up on spellings in the archives because most of these were made by Englishmen who tried to spell the names as they sounded to them.I think you will see the name spelled as Shop in tax records.I find the spellings in the church records of the Rev. Casper Stoever to be more accurate with regard to original German spellings.
The information regarding Catharine Schopp Geeseman being the sister of the John George Shope born in 1756 in Lancaster County came through discussions with Cecil Shope who is a descendent of the John George.Apparently when his application was rejected he appealed and in the appeal he mentioned his sister as having the family Bible.I have not personnaly seen the information Cecil discussed with me so I cannot provide details of what was in the appeal.
If the family Bible still exists and could be located, it would probably answer many questions about who is who.
Bill
