Hi,
Last week I finally found my Fogle connection which led me to the Shorb line. My adaline Fogle who married Daniel Holwick May 2, 1850 in Canton, Stark Co., Ohio was the daughter of Adam Fogle and Catherine Shorb. Catharine (Catherine) was the daughter of Stephen Shorb and Christina Lechner. I know for a fact according to the Ohio Repository that Adam and Catherine married Just before June 27, 1822 in Perry Township, Stark Co., Ohio. My question is why they were in Perry Township and not in Canton? Is there any record of Stephen being there. They were near Massilon. A daughter Elizabeth was Christened on June 22, 1828 according to the St. Joseph Parish records. The Stark Library sent me a copy of the newpaper announcement for Adam And Catherines marriage and it reads the following:
Married on Tuesday Evening last by the Rev. Mr Young, Mr. Adam Fogle to Miss Catharine Shorb, daughter of Mr. Stephen Shorb, of Perry Township.
Most people in the records show Stephen Shorb's daughter Catherine to have a birthdate of November 14, 1802 but according to the cemetery record for her, her birthdate is December 6, 1804. I am more inclined to believe the tombstone but am not positive. The tombstone reads her death to be April 6, 1877 in Nimishillen Township, Stark Co., Ohio. She and her husband Adam Fogle are buried in Union Cemetery there. THeir daughter Elizabeth is also buried there with dates of 1828-1906. Does anyone know anything about Catherine or Stephen or Adam. Or does anyone have any photographs of the family. It seems that both families the SHorb and FOgle families were quite prominent in the Canton area and that there were several doctors in the Fogle line. I know that the Holwick line has lawyers as well. Anything is much appreciated. Thanks
