To John Shorten
Thanks for tour message. South Africa is a new venue for Shortens for me. I have had a look in the records of the Griffiths Valuation of Ireland which was made in the mid 19 century and note that there are 46 entries with the surname Shorten. All are in County Cork and the majority in the area to the west of the town of Bandon. This may not represent 46 individuals as one man may have had more than one property valued. Is this any help to you?
Best wishes
Kate Firth
