Hi Pat, Just found out that my Sara Shorten, sister to Richard Shorten came to USA in 1867, after the Civil war. It so stated this date in the census report. Do you have the listings for the births of William and Sara Payne Shortens' children...William P.; John; Richard, Sara and Jennine.....I have the dates of death as I have seen the grave markers. I know from the newspaper obit of Richard Shorten in the 1920's that he came over with his family on a seven week trip that landed in New also stated that William and his wife Anne were teachers in England and Ireland. I assumed the whole family came together but now I think they may not I never found info on Anne Shorten any place in the first info on Richard, William P. and dad, William Shorten was the 1850 census for Bourbon County, Kansas...but no wife or daughters......then I found William P. single farming on land granted after the Civil war with his brother John, sisters Sara and Jennie all single people at that time 1870....then Sara marries B. F. Fortney in 1871. ....then William P. died and I found his final arrangements and papers in a library in Cherokee County Kansas...listing his father William and brother Richard paying off his final debts and burial expenses......please let me know if you have additional info....Donna Shorten
