Margaret, I think you asked where Bandon is. It's WSW of Cork City approx. 19 miles. My mother's family came from Shanaclogh, a townland near Bandon. My great grandfather was James Shorten who had brothers named John Edward, Benjamin, Joseph and Jonathon. After the potato famine Jonathon went to Australia, John and James came to America and John and Benjamin stayed in Ireland. This family was Protestant. There were also a lot of Shortens in the area who were Catholic. I was just in Bandon and that area for a couple days during a week spent in Ireland. I was able to actually find descendants of my great uncle still living in the area. I'd be glad to furnish any information I can.
