At first I believed Rufus F. Shue was a casualty of the Civil War, but he wasn't! Have been told he left his first wife and children. She remarried and I guess he did, too. Have also been told he was an entertainer on riverboats (probably on the Mighty thought). He died in Tenn. and I may even have a date of death, or least an approximate date. Would you be interested? If so, let me know and I will get out my notes and check them.
Since you have more info on John and Nancy (Hatley) Shue's family, do you know anything about the possibility of William Riley Shue being their son? (There was another Wm. Riley Shue, too, who was probbly a cousin to the one who lived in Pope Co., AR in the 1850's.) The one in Pope Co. owned property, which became his wife Susan's property after he died (kicked by a cow, I believe) about 1858 or 1859. His daughter, Mary Shue, was my gr. grandmother, who died about 1948. I did not know her, and she did not know much about her Shue ancestors, I guess. She was born around the time he died, I think. I feel sure her father was a son of John and Nancy (Hatley) Shue, but no actual proof yet. Cannot even find out Susan's maiden name and when or where they were married. Please let me know if you have any information about this couple. Perhaps we could exchange more info about the Shue family in Pope Co.
