John Henry Porter married Sally Shew on 1 Feb 1825 in Wilkes County, and the family moved to Russell County, VA about 1830. I have 13 children for them, and one was Sarah Ellen Porter, born in Russell County about 1841. She married on 8 Jul 1857 Zachariah Salyers. I think she was not the Sarah Porter who married Jesse Franklin Johnson. Jesse F. Johnson was one of the sons of Hardwick Johnson (born about 1788 in Wilkes County, who died 3 Nov 1864 in Hays, Wilkes County, NC) and Barbara Staley (born about 1788, and died about 1862 in Hays, Wilkes County, NC). A record dated October 1842 in the 1840-1850 Wilkes County School Census lists (among 62 students) Jesse F. Johnson and Sarah N. Porter. This Sarah was born about 1835, one of 7 children of James Porter (Abt 1805-after 1848) and Malinda Bernette/Barnette (Abt 1805-After the 1860 census in Wilkes County) who were married 26 April 1825. I have no further information on this Sarah Porter. The 1850 Wilkes County census shows #465 Jesse Johnson age 25, Rebecca age 24, and Sarah age 8/12ths. I think he was Jesse Franklin as he was living next to Harden Johnson (#464) and Harden was living next to Lewis Johnson (#463), and they were all sons of Hardwick Johnson. I have no information on Rebecca. The 1860 Wilkes census shows #472 (Jesse) Franklin Johnson age 36, Joseph age 9, John L. (Lewis) age 7, and William age 4. There is no wife mentioned. In this census four of Hardwick Johnson's sons were living in a row. I would like to hear from you with your current ideas on the family. Notify Administrator about this message?
