All of Richards information for the Shue name, seems to be correct, with the exception of the much spread myth that Shue is the German derivative of the English word shoe.
When, our ancestors came to America, from Germany, the English doc masters that were taking the names of passengers, made many mistakes. They spelled the names that they heard, with english letter sounds. That is where the German ancestors of Lancaster, PA got the name Pennsylvania Dutch. When the German imigrants, began to settle in the Lancaster, PA area, the English, already settled there, asked them, "where they were from?"When the imigrants replied, "Dueitchlnd," the English thought that they were saying Dutchland. And wrongly perceived that the new imigrants were from Holland.
The ignorance of the English and their inability to understand and except the German customs, still exists today, in the Lancaster culture.
My ancestors, attended church, in Littlestown, PA.German was the principle language of the area and the church until the late 1800's, when an English sermon, was added to the Sunday serviceThis enraged my great granfather so that he left the church and joined the Mennonite church, outside of Hanover, PA.By the early 1930, Their was only an English Sermon preached at the now Littlestown UCC church.
My grandfather, who spoke the low German language, spoken by the Pennsylvania Dutch, did not pass on the language to his children or grandchildren. After WWI, It was considered unpatriotic to speak any other language except English.
I am in touch with many people who are descendants of the Shue's/ Shu's/etc.Feel free to contact me.There are many books about the German's settling in York and Lancaster counties of PA.

Also, the name Schuey, I have learned, is not of the German Shue line.
I have also learned that the English given name of Shue, might dirive frome the German name Shutes. This information, is so far uncomfirmed.
