Simeon was not a brother to Levi Shy.Simeon Shy was born in 1792, the son of Samuel and Sarah Shy of North Carolina, and he was the frandson of John Shy.Simeon Married Amelia Mayberry (b. abt. 1800 in KY) n June 4, 1818 in Irving Springs, Estill Co., TN.In the 1820 Census in Kentucky, Simeon was reported under the surname Shye.He continued to be found in the Census of Bourbon County , Kenucky in 1830 and 1840, but at this time he was reported under the surmae Shy.In the 1850 Census, he was reported to be in Tennessee, age 56, and married to Amelia, age 52.
On the 1850 Census, Simeon's children were reported as Sanual A. (25), Martha B. (Margaret Barthenia (23), James Louis (15), Willaim (13), and Julius (7).Children not reported in this Census were Sarah Ann EElizabeth (b in 1820) Minerva, and possibly as many as three other children who are believed to have died in infancy, one of whom is believed to be Jacob Shy.
IN the 1860 Census, Simeon was reported to b e 66, Amelia as 65 (diagrees with her age as provided in the 1850 Census.)He and his wife both indicated that they were from Kentuckyin the 1860 Census.Also in this Census, their son Julius French, was reported to be 16 along with a new member of the family, George A., age 3, who was reported with a notation that the reporting was not representative of the entire family.
During the war of 1812 Simeon is believed to have been a private in Captain James Conn's Company of Kentucky Vounteer Militia, having enlisted on Setpember 10, 1814, and mustered out or released on October 9, 1814.He was a farmer, and built a beautful home located outside of Franklin, Tennessee, which is known as the Two Rivers Mansion.Per records supplied by the grand daughter of James Lousi, Simon died outside of the town of Frnklin, Williamson County Tennessee on June 10, 1878. He was 86 at the time of his death.His wife Amelia, died on November 7, 1884 in the same location.
