Kennth Sidebottom Lyle was my Uncle (by his second marriage). He attended the Royal Naval College at Dartmouth and spent the majority of his working life in the Royal Navy. He was in the same year as Lord Mountbattan at Dartmouth and they remained friends during the war years. Kenneth was awarded the CBE for being Commander of the Royal Burmese Navy Reserve during the War. My aunt, Iris Edna Blackburn, was with the Royal Alexander Nursing Core in Burma and that is where they met. They married after the war in Instanbul and lived in Egypt and Bagdahd. Iris was my Godmother and she and Kenneth had no children so I saw a great deal of them and have inherited his medals and some of his photos (my aunt returned a great many to the Lyle family museum, Robert Lyle was part of the Tate and Lyle Sugar Refining family). Kenneth dioed of cancer on 14th August 1970 and is buried in All Saints Churchyard, Selsey in Gloucs. I would be more than happy to give you more information and to send photos if you wish. He was a true English gentleman and a wonderfuyl uncle.
