Hi Ruth,

Sorry, no Jewish connection! Sophia Sigmon who married Robert Lear in Rockcastle County, Kentucky on Feb. 1, 1852 was the daughter of George Sigmon Jr. and Elenor Hitz. Sophia, George and Elenor were all born in North Carolina. George Sigmon Jr. was the son of George Sigmon Sr. and his wife Catharine (last name unknown). George Sr. and Catharine were both born in Pennsylvania. George was born in Feb. 1756 in Tinicum Twp., Bucks Co. to George Sigmon and Barbara Bisbing and was baptised at Christ Lutheran Church. It might interest you to know that George Sigmon (grandfather of Sophia) was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. He married Catharine in Philadelphia about 1783 then settled his family in Lincoln County, N.C. In the 1830's he relocated to Rockcastle County Kentucky where he died on Oct. 20, 1841.
Robert Lear (Sophia's Husband) was born in Garrard Co., Kentuck on Nov. 24, 1828. He was the son of Jesse Lear and Elizabeth Williams. Jesse and Elizabeth were both born in Virginia. Elizabeth's father was Elijah Williams who was also a veteran of the Revolutionary War.
