NC record states NJ Siler married Mary Marley 7 Dec 1865. The 1870 census reports that Newton J Siler was married to Mary D. Both of these indicated they lived in Randolph County. A search of Marley's in Randolph and Chatham, NC show that many moved to Indiana. In the early nineteenth century large numbers of southern Quakers migrated north, many to IN, because of their opposition to slavery. The 1880 census records list Newton with his Quaker wife Mary in Decatur County, IN. After his wife died Newton J. moved back to Randolph County, NC. There he shows up again in the 1920 census. Records indicate he died 10 Aug 1922 in Randolph County.

We still don't know his parents but the more we know about him the more leads we have to follow.
