About this section, I am a descendent here:
4 Obediah Simpson Silkwood 1832 - 1904
+Catherine 1834 -
5 Margaret Silkwood 1862 -
5 Samuel S. Silkwood 1863 - 1928
+Kate Watters
5 Mary S. Silkwood 1864 -
+B. O. Hart

Here is what I can add.
Catherine, the wife was Catherine W Fay she was born in Ireland and had married first to a Mr Foley in New York City. This would have been 1849/1857. They had one son Michael Foley in 1857 and then that Mr Foley died. Catherine's three brothers had already moved to California and so she moved to join them, by way of the Isthmus of Panama.
Obediah Simpson Silkwood b May 1832 in Illinois married her 1857/1860 in Sacramento, California and they had four children: Thomas P 1860, Margaret 1861, Samuel S 21 May 1864 and Mary E 1870.
Obediah had come to Sacramento in 1851. In 1860 Obediah is found in Township #118, Amador Co, CA. In 1867 he immigrated to Eureka, Humboldt Co, CA and the family is there in 1870 in Bucksport Township (not Bricksport as erroneously indexed on ancestry). In 1880 they are in Willow Creek District. In 1900 they are in Eureka again.
The oldest girl Margaret was FIRST married to a Mr West 1876/1878 and had by him one daughter Mary Eliza West 11 Mar 1879. Some time after that she must have married a Smith, but I have no idea when.
Samuel S Simpson married after Kate Watters to Maud Devoy on 20 Dec 1921 and probably in Humboldt Co as well. He died in Eureka 7 Jan 1928. Maud was living at some time later in San Diego Co, CA.
Mary Eliza West married Edward Newell 1895/1896 and they appear in 1900 in Hydesville, Humboldt Co, CA and in 1920 in Bucksport. Edward was a Machinist on both census. They had at least two children: Edward Leland 11 Dec 1902 and Herbert Drysdale 20 Aug 1906.
Herbert Drysdale married a Miss Hale abt 1931 and had Herbert Collin 15 Mar 1932 who now resides in Sweden or Norway I believe. Herbert (the father) then married Ruth Elizabeth Rose (1918-still living) and had five children, all living except the eldest Rose Marie 25 Jan 1937-2000. All born in Humboldt Co, CA.
Edward Leland Newell married Helen Catherine McManus (1905-1981) all born, married, died in Humboldt Co, CA.
