My grandmother Mariana Silveira came over in 1892 with Mariana Nascimento. Her husband-to-be Antonius Pedroso and her 2 brothers, Joaquin and John Silveira were already here. They were all dairymen from St. Jorge and all ended up living in Santa Clara Valley. In 1905, my aunt Diolinda was baptized in Newman with Joseph and Maria Julia Pedroso as the godparents. They had 6 children, the oldest a son named Joseph had infantile paralysis and never completed his growth and 5 daughters. Antonius died in 1917 and Mariana moved to Oakland after that.
