James Sim, wife Janet (nee Davidson) and four children came to Wellington, New Zealand in 1841 aboard the Olympus. They settled in the Johnsonville area, now one of Wellington's northern suburbs.

James was a carpenter from Forfar, Angus, Scotland. In New Zealand he was a sheep farmer.
