Thanks for responding. I know that Michael Simper has copied his response to me to you and it appears we are 'not related this side of 1800', although your ancestor Robert and mine Samuel may be related, both going back to Suffolk. I still find this incredibly exciting and have posted Michael's response to my Father for any more details. It's almost surreal having a complete stranger e-mail big chunks of your family history to you.
Interesting things I didn't know:
* my Father (Roy son of Harold) had an aunt Ethel who died in infancy - how was she born in Islington?
* he had a cousin Margaret who died aged 31/32 - what happened there?
* we seem to come from one of the 'lost villages' in Suffolk, which I'd heard about via history programmes.
By the way, unless I've misread Michael's message, my father appears to have remarried a woman 40-years younger than him, which isn't true - he's still married to my Mother Jean Mary Sandbach. This must be his Blackpool 'Roy Simper'.
Do you have any Yorkshire connections as all the Yorkshire Simpers came from Suffolk and your Robert Simper appears to have come from this County? Curious that, although born in Sale, Cheshire, I lived and worked (for Rotherham Council) in Yorkshire for many years and always felt very at home there.
Curiouser still, having moved to Coventry, there is a family of Simpers living nearby who I must contact. Mind you Michael may already know of them.
I have been promised a lot more information when I have updated the initial batch so I'll have more to report then. Do keep in touch?
