In researching the Wannamaker family of Orangeburg District, SC, I found a Public Family Tree on for J. Richard Sineath and Mahalah Beauregard Wannamaker, which said that J. Richard BENTON had assumed his step-father Peter Sineath's last name. That is all the post said about his name. J. Richard (Benton) Sineath was born in 1854 in Colleton Co., SC, and died 23 April 1917, Orangeburg Co., SC. He married Mahalah Beauregard Wannamaker 17 Jan 1878 (Orangeburg Co., SC, I assume). Both are buried in Prospect Southern Methodist Cemetery, Jamison, SC.

Most of the information appears to have been taken from "Sineath Family and Affiliated Family Lineages," researched by William Rudolph Bauer (1970).
