STRICKEN WITHOUT WARNING. MICHAEL CRAFF, one of the best and best known citizens of Walnut township, was found dead in the barn at his home in Germanville, Wednesday morning about 9 o'clock. Death was due to an affection of the heart, the result of disease contracted in the army. Mr. Craff was a native of Germany and was sixty-eight years of age Oct. 1st. He came to the United States with his parents in 1840, lived two years in Ohio and then removed to Jefferson County. He was married to Caroline Spielman March 26th 1860. Seven children were born to this union, five of whom survive the father-John F., William, Edward, and May Craff, and Mrs. J. A. Sinn, all living in this county. Mr. Craff was a soldier in the Civil War, Company M, Fourth Iowa Calvary, and saw four years and seven months of arduous service. He was with his command in practically all its engagements, was a brave soldier under all circumstances and had an excellent military record. In civil life Mr. Craff was a most excellent man - honest, industrious, faithful to every trust. His death will be very generally regretted by his old comrades in arms and by the many people who had known him during his long residence in this county. The body was interred at Germanville Friday, and the funeral was the largest ever held at that place.
