Liz,
I thought this was an interesting passage taken from pg. #1 of the SAVILS/SIVILS FAMILY
RECORDS of TRIGG CO. KY book by Barbara Smith:
"There are several branches of the SAVILLE family in America, in England and in France. In fact, the family probably originated in Normandy. In the United States there are at least 3 branches. The name SAVILLE is of Anglo-French origin. It is interpreted to mean "the willow village, or farm, or estate"."
Pg.#49 - Report of first settlers at New Madrid - Dec. 31, 1790 - List showing the families who were found established at the post of New Madrid when the commandant arrived there.........LUIS SAVUL, 1 married man, 1 woman, 1 child..........
(Note:there is a New Madrid, Missouri???)
