Curtis Six (Alias John M. Curtis)
We are looking for my Great Great Grandfather John M. Curtis. He used several names. At age 18, he signed up as a volunteer for Civil War with 147th Company F using the name Curtis Six.According to the muster roll he was from Anderson, Madison Co., IN.He married his first wife, Anna Matthews, on 13 Nov 1871 using the name John Curtissike in Delaware Co., IN.His oldest son John Harrison used Curtissike when he got married also. All other information I have he used John M. Curtis. He later filed for Pension Request due to an injury he received during the Civil War.He obtained affidavits and one mentions he assumed his stepfather’s name when he enlisted. It didn’t mention whether it was his last name or first name. The other day I found an 1850 census from Grant Co., IN with a Curtis Six.It listed Mary A. Six age 28, Julia A. Six age 6, Curtis Six age 3 and Mary E. Six age 5 months. There’s no father listed. They were living with a family named Wilson and the man’s name was John M.However, they are not listed with the Wilson family on the 1860 census. He listed different birthplaces OH, TN, IN.He had 5 sons with his first marriage:John Harrison Curtis (Indianapolis, IN), Thomas Jefferson (died at age 2), Thomas Madison (died at age 4), Edgar Wayne Curtis (last know where about was in South Africa with Coast Defense Service in the Army), Elias Martin Curtis (last known address Boulder, Co.).Second wife was Minerva Pennington, they had 1 son Perry Richardson Curtis (my great grandfather)(Marion, Grant Co., IN).Third wife was Catherine Kline. If anyone has information that could help us get past this dead end would be greatly appreciated.
