the mysterious Thomas Sizer 'of England'
Greetings, Friends!
I am looking to see if anyone in either England or North America might be able to shed some much-needed light on the query following. For positively years, I have been searching for information on THOMAS SIZER, who is known to have come from England (exactly where is never specified!) in the mid-nineteenth century, settling in and around the Buffalo, New York area.
In 1858 (1 June), Thomas married Theresia Holscher, a German woman, in Niagara Falls, New York. From what I have understood of family lore, Thomas worked as an English agent during the American Civil War, and in 1864 was suddenly obliged to quit the US and return to England rather quickly. Before doing so, he made provision for his wife and children before leaving and disappearing from the history books, as it were!I trace my descent through his son, Michael Sizer, a tinner-farmer-horseman who would go on to settle in St James, Minnesota from 1890.
ANY information on the most elusive Thomas Sizer would be much appreciated, not only by myself, but by a number of curious Sizers throughout Western Canada!
Thank you all,
Jared SIZER
