Dear Sylvia
I have checked my extensive records for "The Skeldings" & can find no reference for any Skeldings who resided in Oxford on or around 1840-1849.
I checked the IGI & used all the usual possible mis-spellings for Skelding. I found nothing for either George or Susan. I then checked my 1881 Census & found the return for Jonathan Edwards & his wife Susan. I assume that you already have this data, if not, I can send it to you.
I too have found many similar examples of parents not registering the birth of their children around this date.
If you do have any additional information [you do not mention if you have the christian name of George's wife], please send it to me & I will check my files again. I can only suggest that you check the returns for the 1841 & 1851 Census & see if your ancestors are mentioned.
If you do establish the facts that you are seeking, I would appreciate the details as I have no records of Skeldings residing in Oxfordshire at anytime. Some of my records go back to the Tudor period & this data would be of great help to my research.
Regards
Graham Skelding.
