Skelton name change

I have William Skelton of 1745 and his Father with the Shelton name, Ralph Jr. of 1709. Now I have this lady in contact with me about this, she does not belive the Skelton's and Shelton's are of the same family. I am trying to find some proof for her that they did change their name. Can someone help me with this? Thank you.Tim
