Skelton seems to be a place name, named after parish, township, and a hamlet in Yorkshire. Seems to have originated here. The New England Historic Genealogical Society, The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, Vol LII, Boston 1898) pages 347-349 list its meaning as a derivation of "Skeel", a Danish personal name and "tun", the Norse term for a fortified town. per Ray Skelton, of Caldwell, Idaho.
