Rev. Alvin York Skelton, 74, of Church Hill, Hawkins Co TN, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital & Medical Center following an extended illness - Kingsport, Sullivan Co TN. Mr. Skelton was a life long resident of Hawkins County. He entered the ministry in 1975 and had served as pastor and interim pastor for numerous churches in the Holston Conference. He was a member and former pastor of Solomon’s Temple Baptist Church and attended Vision Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of Holston Defense and was a farmer. Alvin was a loving husband, a wonderful father, grand- father and a wonderful friend to all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Virginia 'Virgie' Simmons Skelton. He is survived by his loving wife, Frances Davis Skelton, Church Hill, TN; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Vickie Skelton, Mount Carmel, TN; two grandchildren, Emily and Rachel Skelton; one sister, Elizabeth 'Jane' Littleton, Church Hill, TN; two nephews, Mike and Rob Littleton. Calling hours are from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, October 19, 2008, at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence. Service will be conducted Sunday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Harold Shoemaker and Rev. Aaron Price officiating. Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at Church Hill Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Carl Skelton, Tommy Skelton, Mark Harris, Benny Berry, Butch Whitaker, Dan Alley, Larry Gibbons and Gerald Bays. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Vision Baptist Church Building Fund.
