Frequently the name Bernsar/Bernzar Skelton shows up. It may have been a nickname. His actual name was Barnes R Skelton. His aunt Martha (Patsy) Skelton married Barnes Reavis on 20 May, 1823 which is possibly the source of the name Barnes and perhaps the R. I hesitate to post this supposition because, once posted, it tends to become "fact'.
Per DB Montgomery, The Montgomerys and Their Descendants page 251 his name was Barnes and he was born in 1829. The 1850 census would indicate an 1827 birthdate. The photo of the tombstone seems to provide conclusive proof of his vital dates. The other person on the tombstone is his brother Thomas. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=pis&GSln=skelton&GSbyrel=in&GSdyrel=in&GSst=17&GScntry=4&GSob=n&GSsr=1&GRid=8436755&PIgrid=8436755&PIcrid=86911&PIpi=13467112&
