This line is well developed by Colonel John W. Skelton in his book, "John Skelton of Georgia." The earliest known Skelton of this line is John Skelton (Sr.), who signed his will in Saint James Parish of Mecklenburg County, Virginia on 18 November 1777. He is believed to have had three sons: William (b. ca. 1737-d. 1768), John (Jr.) (b. ca. 1740-d. bef. 1790), and Mark (b. aft. 1741-d. ca. 1784). John (Jr.) is presumed to have been the father of John Skelton (of Georgia) who married Rebecca Harbor. John and Rebecca were parents to eleven children; their second child was Wiley Skelton (b. 02 March 1797 in Elbert Co., GA; d. 26 Aug. 1866 in Tuscaloosa Co., AL). Additional details are given in the aforementioneded work of Colonel John W. Skelton.
