My g-g-g-grandfather was Charles Skevington but possibly not the Charles you are after. He was born in Turvey c.1828 (the date is taken from his age at death) and married Ann Sinfield on 5 Nov 1850 in Turvey before emigrating to new Zealand. They had 12 children. I'd be interested to find out about your Charles even if they are not the same person. I think that it is likely that were related in some way. In the 1841 census there is a Charles Skevington, farmer, listed. This is probably not your Charles either - he would have been too young. I found this on the Turvey website www.turvey.homestead.com/ Goodluck in your search.
