Fredk. Lockwood PIERSON's booklet, "Descendants of James SKIFF of London, England, & Sandwich, MA" James SKIFF was living in 1688, married Mary, who d. 21 S 1673, Sandwich, Barnstable Co., MA. [James may have also married Margaret REEVES, but I have no proof.]

Nathan SKIFF, youngest child (16 May 1658 - will pr. 19 Feb. 1725/6) m1. 10 July 1678 [per TORREY] or 10 July 1680? Hepsibah CODMAN, d/o Robert of Edgartown; m2. 13 Dec. 1699, Mercy CHIPMAN, b. 1668/9, d/o John of Barnstable.

Benjamin SKIFF (29 Apr. 1691 - 2 D 1781, Ellsworth, MA) & first wf. Abigail JAMES, who d. at Chilmark, MA, had

Abigail, m. _ MERRY.
Nathan, of Martha's Vineyard.
John, moved away & had a son Jacob.
Prince, nfr.
Benjamin, m. at Chilmark, Susannah HILLMAN.

2d. wf. Miriam MERRY, who d. at Ellsworth:

Mary, b. 1 S 1744; m. at Chilmark, 27 Jan. 1769, Samuel SKIFF.
Elizabeth, b. 1741, Chilmark, d. 9 Aug. 1818, Ellsworth, unm.
Benjamin.

BANKS' "History of Martha's Vineyard" There was a James SKIFFE, bu. 12 Je. 1609, Chelsea, near London, who left widow Margery, who m2. Wm. SHEPPIE. James d. testate, but there was no son James. However, he had sons John [bpt. 1592, dy] William [bpt. 1599], Obadiah, and Joshua. [The fairly rare name, with SKEFFE and other spellings, was found mostly around London.]
