Could Matthew COFFIN have had a prior marriage? Indiana marriage database to 1850, online, has only two COFFIN marriages

FamilySearch has the pedigree of Matthew (25 Mar. 1811, Springfield, Guilford Co., NC - 10 Mar. 1884) s/o James COFFIN & Sarah STARBUCK.

In 1880, Newton, IA: Vernon SKIFF, 39, NY NY VA, head of household; wf. Mary, 37, IN NC IN; ch. b. Iowa: Stella, 12; Frank, 10; Blanche, 7; "other," Mathew COFFIN, 69, NC NC NC.

FamilySearch: Vernon SKIFF (23 Jan. 1841, Hume, Allegany Co., NY - 29 Apr. 1926, Oak Park, IL; bu. Newton, Jasper Co., IA) m. 23 Jan. 1867, Chillicothe, MO, Mary Frances COFFIN. Vernon was s/o Wm. Robinson SKIFF & Abigail W. AXTELL. Wm. SKIFF & Abbie were of Newton, IA, for the 1880 census. FamilySearch has the SKIFF line back to the early Sandwich, MA, family.
