James SKIFF, MA
James SKIFF, a proprietor of Lynn, MA, 1637, moved to Sandwich, MA.He was not one of the ten men of Saugus that were the first settlers ofSandwich, but he was there by 1639.On 3 Oct. 1639, a general court at Sandwich issued a summons for James SKIFF regarding his refusal to take the oath of fidelity. In 1659, he was accused of toleration of Quakers. He died at Sandwich after 1688.His (second?) wife Mary died in Sandwich, 21 S 1673, per Freeman's History of Cape Cod.Children of James SKIFF:

MAYFLOWER DESCENDANT, 14:106+:Earliest entries of vital records of Sandwich, MA, are found in a volume labelled General Records, 1651 - 1691, but that is misleading. There is a record as early as 1636.Some records were published as listed by H. G. O. ELLIS, Sandwich Town Clerk, 15 S 1869.Unfortunately, he apparently did not understand the Old Style Calendar and sometimes listed the tenth month as October instead of December. He also had difficulty reading the handwriting, which caused him to misread Patience SKIFF as Marienne.Only nine children of James SKIFF are listed in the VR of Sandwich, MA "Mayflower Descendant" 14:167:
James SKEFF, 12 S 1638.
Steven, 14 Apr. 1641.

SAVAGE's "Genealogical Dictionary," James SKIFF:Bathshua, 21 {sic} Apr. 1648, who m. perhaps in 1666, Shearjashub BOURNE; Mary, 24 Apr. 1650; and perhaps Patience, who m. 26 Oct. 1675, Elisha BOURNE.An Eliz. SKAFF, the Col. Rec. says, was bur. at Rehoboth 25 Je. 1676.
TORREY has these marriages:
James, d. 1688+, m. Mary, who d. 1673.
James (1638 - ) m1. Elizabeth NABOR/NEIGHBOR/TABOR, 18 Nov. 1659, div. 1670; m2. Mar. 1677, Sarah BARNARD (1648? - 1732).

Patience, d. 1718, m. 26 Oct. 1675, Elisha BOURNE (1641 - 1706).
Nathan (1655/8? - 1700) m. ca. 10 July 1678, Hapzibah [CODMAN]; m2. 13 Dec. 1699, Mercy CHIPMAN, b. 1668/9.
SKIFF, Benjamin, b. 1655, m. 20 F 1679/80, Hannah MERRY.
This SKIFF family does not appear to have any Sarah SKIFF that could have married Edmund FREEMAN (1655-1720) & had children born from Aug. 1683 to Oct. 1706.The "Sare" born in 1646 would have been sixty in 1706.
