My father in law now tells me he also remembers his grandma (Mary Ann Skingle)taking him to see a Butcher in Ballam who he believes may have been a brother (William perhaps?) and also a Rag and Bone man called Uncle Tom (Skingle?). I am hoping to trace Mary Ann's birthdate etc later this week and will let you know if I find any other information to help.
