Archibald was a well-known painter - among which is the portrait of Robert Burns.
He was imprisoned in the Bastille during the French Revolution. Taken prisoner on a ship on his return from Italy. -
Two selk portraits of Archibald and one he painted of his father are in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburg. - as is his portrait of Robert Burns.
Archibald is buried in Athelstaneford Kirkyard.
