5 SLATER BOYS Wednesbury, England to PGH. PA. 1898
Hello,
I am looking for information and/or descendants of FREDERICK SLATER and ELLEN PAGE.
Below is all the info I have on them:
ELLEN PAGEborn:2 Feb 1859died: 1891 Wales?
born in Wednesbury, Staffordshire, Eng.
parents:
JOHN PAGE8 Dec 1836 -4 May 1914
CATHERINE OAKLEY 4 Sep 1830-29 Aug 1914
FREDERICK SLATER married Ellen 9 Aug 1877 at the Parrish
Church in Wednesbury. He was 20 yrs old.
Ellen and Frederick had 5 sons:
JOHN WILLIAM SLATER born: 15 Feb 1881 Wednesbury
ERNEST FREDERICK
VICTOR
FREDERICK
HERBERT "BERTIE"
Family lore has it that Ellen died giving birth to her 5th child. Her sister, HANNAH PAGE (21 Sep 1861-7 Jul 1939)
moved in to help Frederick take care of the children. They later married each other; and shortly after, he died.
Hannah brought the 5 boys over to Pennsylvania from England on the "Teutonic". They arrived in the U.S. 17 Oct 1898. Ellis Island gives the following info:
Manifest for Teutonic:
HANNAH SLATERFage 37
JOHN WM. SLATERMage 17
VICTOR SLATERMage 11
FREDERICK SLATERMage5
BERTIE SLATERMage5
Hannah married WILLIAM R. LLEWELYN 31 Dec 1900 in Allegheny County, Pa. He died in 1941. They are both buried in Grandview Cemetery, North Versailles, Pa.
John SLater ended up in the Chicago, Illinois area. He was a railroad engineer. That is about all I know of our Slater connection. What happened to the other 4 boys is a big part of my brick wall. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Gary B. Page
