I have an Aunt L Smith and an Aunt Seeth Slater. Everyone called Auntie L, just that! We don't know if it's Ellen, Ella, Lovina or what. The problem is, we aren't sure where to begin with this. My mother never met the Aunts because they died before she was born (which was 1935). My g-Gramma Minnie Anne knew them well, and would talk about them with frequency. My mother does recall that at least one of them did travel to visit the family, from MA. She believes they were Slater Sisters and always thought they were related to g-gramma Minnie's husband Adelbert Cook. My g-gramma married him 2/1900 at which point these 2 ladies were up in years. I highly suspect they are related to:
Slater, Dexter b.May 1840 age 60m.38y to Rosipha (-?-). They never had any children. He was born in MA as were both of his parents (whoever they were). His wife Rosipha was b. Sept 1843 in NY. In 1900 he owned a house in Maryland, Otsego Co. NY and it just happened to be among a couple households of Smiths & Cooks. I am thinking he is a brother to Aunt L or Aunt Seeth (if they are not sisters)
I really don't have anything else to go on. I'm thinking that both these women had the maiden name of Cook.,... Rebecca
