Thanks for this helpful posting. This Slaton family can be found in Elmore AL, in 1880 (68 19) headed by a William b 1828, carpenter, no wife listed. This is probably the same household found 1860 Auburn, Macon, AL, page 82, with w Hattie L or poss C. in 1900 Elmore ed 67, s 4, they are in Eclectic AL. Thus, Caroline H may a reversal for Hattie Caroline.

Charles C became principal of Fairview School in Birmingham AL, and published poetry locally. His descendants are known to me but the progenitor of William b ca 1828, is still a mystery to me.
