Willoughby Slaton research

Examination of church and court and pension records in Harrison and Boone cos KY have revealed that Willoughby Slayden, son of Arthur & Rosamund (Pugh) Slayden of Charlotte VA>Wilkes co GA, mar a Milley ROBINSON, daughter of John Robinson. They lived in Boone co KY. Willoughby later married his cousin Elizabeth Walker Lowe in 1807, and then a third time to a Mary ? His will was proved in 1829 Clarke co AL.

Further, Willoughby & Milley produced a son William. William was b 1803 and as his mother Milley died giving him birth, he was adopted by William BRADY, a Rev War veteran who moved to Boone from the Old 96th dist in SC.

We are trying to establish a marriage date and place for Willoughby and Milley and are thus researching BRADY and ROBINSONS in an effort to clarify this picture.

William BRADY (b 1758) had married Hetha ROBINSON, another dau of John ROBINSON. Attempts to determine William BRADY's parentage have proven difficult; but he says his father's house in SC was burned by "Tories and Indians." A marriage record for Wm and Hetha could be helpful in locating her sister Milley. I have located Bradys in Laurens co SC, but my resources for this area are limited. William Slaton remained with Willam BRADY's family "for about nineteen years," but his fate is unknown, as to whether he adopted the BRADY name or not.

BRADY moved to MO in 1844 with his son John BRADY and is buried in Harrisonville, Cass co..

John ROBINSON moved to Harrison co KY where his estate was involved in a dispute over a slave, which shows that William BRADY was living on ROBINSON's former Boone co land ca 1826.

Anyone interested in a complete listing of the documentation for these statements, or has information to share about the BRADY and ROBINSON connection, should please contact me, at The above research was conducted by Julia O Mitchel and Clinton Slayton in Frankfort KY in 2001.
