Death of an Old Citizen of Columbus.

Died, in Ellis county, Texas, September 23d, James A. Slaton, aged sixty-four years. The deceased was born and raised in Georgia, and was for a number of years a citizen of Columbus. He joined the Methodist Episcopal Church at this place in 1837, and ever afterwards lived as he believed to be right. He was proverbial for his uprightness and honesty, disdaining to do or have anything to do with what had the least appearance of unfairness or dishonesty. He was conscientious in the discharge of all his duties, both spiritual and temporal, and leaves behind him a character unsurpassed and untarnished, and now, while his body rests in the grave, his spirit enjoys that rest in heaven that is awarded to the finally faithful.
