Slatterys of Ireland and Lancashire
I am looking for a Slattery family who settled in Rochdale, Lancs. The father was Thomas, who apparently died in in Ireland 28/12/1874 and was buried at Atteryclass. The rest of the family emigrated to England and worked in the cotton mills in Rochdale. On the family grave headstone in Rochdale cemetery are the following names:
Ellen Slattery, widow of Thomas, died 17/09/1905 age 82
Mary, daughter, died 13/12/1883 age 31
Bridget Fairey, daughter, died 01/06/1879 age 20
Jane Ellen Fairey, grandaughter, died 28.01.1909 age 32
Margaret, daughter, died 14/09/1929 age 75
Bridget Slattery married Joseph Fairey, and Jane Ellen was their daughter. Joseph paid for the grave, and then disappeared. I have not been able to trace him, although the Slatterys are to be found in the 1881, 1891 & 1901 census records for Rochdale.
There were also two other children of Thomas and Ellen Slattery named in the 1881 census for Rochdale - Ellen b 1862 and Thomas b 1863. All the children were born in Ireland, but granddaughter Jane Ellen Fairey was born in Rochdale.
I'm afraid I don't know which part of Ireland the Slatterys came from, nor have I been able to identify "Atteryclass" as a place. Can anyone help?
