Tamela,
Your Eleazer "Azor" Slawson was the son of David L. and Eliza (UMN) Slawson.David was a private in the War of 1812 (1st Reg't) from Wake Co., NC.He is listed in the 1830& 1840 censuses for Lowndes Co., AL.He died sometime between Dec. 1842 and April 1846.His widow, Eliza, married Lazarus (Elazarus) Smith on April 6, 1846 in Lowndes Co., AL.This couple is listed in the 1850 Lowndes Co. census and in the 1860 Union Parish, LA census.I "think" that my gr-gr-grandfather, William Slawson, was David's brother. They lived very near one another in Lowndes County AND William served as the executor of David's son's (Leander) estate in 1855.The book, The Slason, Slauson, Slawson, Slosson Family, by George C. Slawson (1946) has long been out of print.I know that there is a copy of it in the Alabama Archives and History Library in Montgomery,AL and one in the Birmingham City Library.I would assume there is a copy of this book in every state archives in every state where sizable numbers of the Slawson family have lived.George's book is really a valuable resource, BUT it is filled with errors and omissions. He also failed to document sources for the info he presented. Our line is totally missing from the book. From my research, I've concluded that only two branches of the family left New England in the early 1700s and headed south. One Ebenezer Slawson moved from Westchester Co., NY to Bertie Co., NC while another Ebenezer Slawson moved from Fairfield Co. CT to Georgetown District, SC.Most all "Southern Slawsons/Slauson" are descended from these two men.Our branch came from the Ebenezer from NC, but I can't determine our exact line of descent.I hope this helps you.
Your cousin, Milton Slauson
