I am descended from Marietta Babb on my my mother's side, coincidentally.
The Ben F Slayton you refer to was, I believe, a blacksmith who appears in 1900 Hunt co TX, b ca Aug 1868, mar to Loula b ca Apr 1876 (census dates). Their family in that record are :
Slayton Benjamin F blacksmithm35 1900 TX Cen Hunt 128 16 TX 1868-08 h Loula A fNC mNC
Slayton Loula A 2ch 1900 AL Cen Hunt 128 16 TX 1876-04 w Benjamin F fGA mAL
Slayton Charles F 1900 TX Cen Hunt 128 16 TX 1890-09 d Benjamin F
Slayton Era(in?) A 1900 TX Cen Hunt 128 16 TX 1896-12 d Benjamin F
Slayton Leroy C(ordell?) 1900 TX Cen Hunt 128 16 TX 1898-12 s Benjamin F
It is POSSIBLE that this is a son of William Henry Slaton of Lauderdale co Al, whose son Ben F b ca 1866, is recorded in some records as never married. THe birthplaces of TX for B F and NC for his parents is not conclusive, since census birt places are anecdotal.
There are many many Ben F Slatons and several were fathered by Williams. This is just a hint. I cannot prove this connection.
