I am a Slayton. My father's name is Claude and he is from Homer in Banks County, Georgia. He was born in 1929. His father, whose name was John (I think) was in his early 70's at the time. We've never been able to find a birth certificate for him, they supposedly burned.

Since my grandmother (Sara) was less than half the age of my grandfather, we suspect that he could have had a wife and kids before her. My grandfather died when he was thrown from a horse before my father was born. She remarried and moved to Oklahoma where she died when my father was 15. He never found out too much about his family.

He had several brothers (George Washington Slayton, Austin Slayton and Hoyt Slayton) and he had 4 sisters I think. One of them was named Mary, one was Lou, but I don't remember the names of the other 2. I believe George Washington Slayton was in the service sometime around WWII and was killed on a base in California when a plane crashed into a hangar. The only relative of his I ever met was his younger sister Lou, who died several years ago of cancer in New Mexico.

I don't know if that will help or not. If anyone knows anything about my father's family, please let me know.

Thanks

J.M. Slayton
