Campbell Bascom Slemp b. 4 Sep 1870 Lee County, Virginia d. 7 Aug 1943 Knox County, TN He was elected to Congress to replace his deceased father in 1907 special election and served until 1924. At that time he was appointed by President Calvin Coolidge as the president's private secretary. Campbell became the most noted Coolidge biographer. He became quite wealthy from his coal investments and was Lee County's most prominent citizen during his life.
