Celester Lee Slonaker
Celester Lee "C.L." or "Zellie" Slonaker died at his home Wednesday, March 25, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Carol Laws Slonaker; his son, Allen Terrell Slonaker and his wife, Monica McCarroll; his daughter, Sarah Lindsey Harper and her husband, C. Bryan Harper; his granddaughter, Preston Paige Harper; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. T. Kent Slonaker Sr.; his sister, Betty Ann Chalkley and her husband, Robert; two brothers, Troy K. Slonaker Jr. and his wife, Ann, and Garland E. Slonaker and his wife, Stacey; three nephews, T. Kent Slonaker III, Robert C. Chalkley Jr., and D. Richard Hartzell Jr.; six nieces, Virginia C. Barnett, Susannah S. Bagley, Anna L. Chalkley, Katherine S. Sherman, Margaret E. Hartzell and Rebekah Slonaker; two great-nephews; two uncles; three aunts; and numerous cousins. He was a educator in Chesterfield County public schools for 36 years, first as a music teacher, then as an elementary school administrator for 30 years. In addition, he served as the organist and choirmaster at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church for 33 years. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home’s Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Avenue, where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday (today). The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church located at the corner of Laurel St. and Idlewood Ave. Interment Hollywood Cemetery. If desired, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church or St. Andrew’s Parochial School, 227 S. Cherry St., Richmond, Va. 23220.
