RE: Anyway, John S Slusser was born in Adams Co, PA, 16 September 1812, son of Henry and Mary (Slusser) Slusser. Henry was the son of Philip. Henry took the family to live near Canton, in Stark Co, OH, in 1814. He died there about 1822.
John S is my ggfather.I was raised in Clark Co. Illinois and lived a mile north of his homestead.I sill own the farm there.
I had trouble tracing the Henry. The book "The History of Stark County Ohio" said that Henry was a surveyor who laid out the town of Canton. This seems to fit.
However, I have read in a history of Clark Co. that John S moved with his father Henry to Indiana where John S learned the brick making/laying trade and then moved to Clark Co., IL. where he homesteaded with 2nd wife Mary, Thomas Jefferson, James A (died in Ky. Civil War), Fransisco (Fransisca), Sarah and my ggfather John A. born 1848 in IL. So,I don't know where Henry was buried, Indiana or Illinois, but John S and aforementioned Jeremiah E Slusser along with six following generations of Slussers are buried in the Slusser Cemetary near the Restitution Church, Johnson Township, Clark Co. about a mile from where I grew up.
John S later married Rachael Ream, 3rd wife and lived with Charles Victor Slusser who was 16 in the 1880 census. Charles Victor married my grandmother Laura Higgins Slusser's first cousin (looking for the name again) and they migrated to the northwest. His gson Jerry Slusser of Sacremento area wrote my father about his gfather's history in 1990, which I provided, however I have not remained in contact with him.
