James

There is a possibility that your Agnes Smeaton is the daughter of William Smeaton and Agnes Martin. She was born c. 1858. Williams parents were John Smeaton and Agnes Hay. The only reason I know about this is that John and Agnes had another child John, who is my G-G-G-Grandfather. I have never bothered to explore other sides of this family that much.

I can tell you that William and Agnes were married on the 4 Jul 1843 in Port Dundas, Glasgow. It seemed that the family were there at the time as my John had a daughter there at around the same time. The family originally came from Haddingtonshire/East Lothian where the older John was a carting contractor.

I hope this info helps. If I can be of any further assistance let me know. If you think this is a possibility then I could try to dig out some old references. I did this part of the family tree ages ago and would have to delve a bit.

All the best

Ron
