I am attempting to find information on my son-in-law's Hopkins ancestors. They were from Tippah Co., MS, and moved to Milam Co., TX some time between 1880 and 1900. The 1900 Milam Co., TX census shows:

1900 Milam Co., TX census, Precinct 4, taken 20 Jun 1900, supervisor's district 10, enumeration district 72, sheet 13b, page 185b, dwelling 244-244, lines 71-76:

Mrs. D. K. Hopkins, head, white, female, Aug 1854, 45, widow, 9 children born, 5 living, MS, MS, MS, farmer, can speak English, rents a farm; Ida, daughter, white, female, Nov 1879, 20, single, MS, MS, MS, farm laborer, can read and write and speaks English; Edward, son, white, male, Sep 1880, 19, single, MS, MS, MS, farm laborer, can read and write and speaks English; Andrew, son, white, male, Apr 1883, 17, single, MS, MS, MS, farm laborer, can read and write and speaks English; Effie, daughter, white, female, Jan 1886, 14, single, MS, MS, MS, at school, attended school 3 months, can read and write and speaks English; and Medie, daughter, white, female, Nov 1887, 12, single, MS, MS, MS, at school, can read and write and speaks English; attended school 5 months.

Mrs. D. K. Hopkins was Delaney K. Smith who married John W. Hopkins 10 Mar 1875 in Tippah Co., MS. She was a widow in 1900, and I don't know if he died there or if he came to TX, too. Andrew Jackson Hopkins was my son-in-law's g-grandfather, and he married Tommie Avaline Lumpkin, daughter of Sarah Ann King and Levi Thomas Lumpkin, also residents of Milam Co., TX who came from Tippah Co., MS. A. J. Hopkins and Tommie Lumpkin moved to Ellis and then Kaufman Co., TX. She died Dec 1914, and he remarried and moved to Callahan Co., TX. Edward Lee Hopkins, son of John W. and Delaney Smith Hopkins, appears to have stayed in Milam Co. He married Martha Caroline Cardwell.

I can't find Delaney Hopkins [nor her daughters] after 1900. Either she remarried, or died after the 1900 census. She was the daughter of Emeline Matlock and Peter D. Smith of Tippah Co., MS.

If anyone has any information on these folks, I would love to hear from you. I will be happy to share what information I have.
