Hello Renee,
I have quite a bit of SMITHSON information on this family.Have not been able to trace Nancy after their divorce in 1900.What follows is an obituary for Alexander J. Smithson who was also called "A. J." "Andrew" and "Sandy." in various other records. He and his brother, Hillary, both served in the CSA.Hillery lead quite a life and I think that there are descendants of both these families.I have been in contact with several who have since died.
"Morning Oregonian"Thursday, Feb. 17, 1921, 14:5.
A. J. Smithson, an early-day real estate dealer of this city and father of Forrest C. Smithson, once world's champion hurdler, died Tuesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G. H. Ireland, 1239 East Ash street. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon from Holman chapel.
Mr. Smithson was born at Keysville, Virginia, September 29, 1845.He served with the Confederate forces during the Civil war, and came to Portland in 1869, crossing the plains with an ox team.He became prominent here in the real estate business in Portland's early days.Three children survive: Mrs. F. H. Ireland, Forrest C. Smithson and Noton A. Smithson, an ensign in the navy.
Please get in touch with me at: [email protected], if you have an interest in the SMITHSON connections.Addie Rickey
