Benjamin F. Smoot Sr., born 1840 in VA

We are trying to determine the parents of Benjamin F. Smoot, Sr. He lived for a time in Stonewall, Frederick County, VA, and attended the Disciples of Christ Church in Reliance. There is a Lewis H. Smoot who had a son, Benjamin F., born in 1835--wrong year and this Ben's wife has a different name.

Farmer Benjamin Smoot, 40; Mary S., 33; William, 11; and Benjamin F., 9, are listed in the 26 June 1880 census for Stonewall Township, Frederick County, VA (Image 68 in Ancestry.com), LDS Film#T9-1366, Page 357D.

The 1870 Winchester P.O., Stonewall Township,Frederick,VA census of 9 September lists carpenter Benjamin Smoot, 30; wife Mary B., 20; William A., 1; and Mary A., 3. All are Virginia natives.

Benjamin F. Smoot Sr. and wife, Mary S., had a son, Benjamin born 5 Sep 1871 who married Margaret Pauline Stump (born about 1871 in Warren County, VA).

Ben and Margaret had six children: William T. (born 7 Nov 1898); John B. (born 1903); Ruth V. (born 1905); Ira Kiefer (born 7 Nov 1906); Mary E. (born 11 Apr 1909); and Clarence F. (born 1913).

Ira Kiefer married Vivian P. Creswell (8 Dec 1910 - 3 Jun 1942). Ira and Vivian had 3 children: Eugene Smoot (born 2 Mar 1929- died bef 1950); Garland Lee (21 Apr 1931 - 15 Jan 1970); and Adeline Smoot who married a Hill.
