Thanks very much! This is definitely them in the 1870 census. The 1880 census tracks on the children's names, although I can't account for the "Tandy" as head of household. (Although Daniel Webster was wanted in Bonham, Texas for two killings committed in 1865. It may be he was reluctant to give his full name.)

I'm not sure about the 1860 census. My information is that Willam Smoot and Amanda had Burton Charles (born about 1859), Mary A."Polly" (born about 1861), and Martha Jane (no date of birth). Maybe Elijah was a first born child who didn't survive?
